How to distinguish between different gold carats

Gold is one of the most valuable metals on earth. It is a chemical element of metals, and gold is symbolized by the symbol (Au). It is also one of the transition elements in the periodic table. Gold is found in nature in river beds, in the bowels of the earth, and in mountains. It can be found in its pure form or mixed with other metals. Gold prices depend on its carats, and many people in the world are busy asking about gold prices every day. Gold is also characterized by its flexibility and ability to be shaped, hammered, and drawn. It is a dense metal, resistant to corrosion, and its melting point is 1064 degrees Celsius.

Gold carats

Gold is mixed with other elements such as: copper, silver, and zinc.

This mixing is done in varying proportions to obtain different alloys, and to obtain what is known as multiple gold carats, for the purpose of hardening it and facilitating its formation.

To measure the purity of gold There are two standards: the first is expressed by the degree of purity, which expresses the weight of gold in grams in an alloy weighing one kilogram, and the second is the carat according to the American size, and the lower the number expressing the carat, the less the amount of gold in the alloy, and the international classification of gold carats

24 karat: Purity level 1000 or 999, the alloy consists of pure and clean gold, and gold bullion is made from it. 22 karat: Purity level 917, the alloy consists of 22 parts gold, and two parts other metals.

21 karat: Purity level 875, the alloy consists of 21 parts gold and 3 parts other metals.

18 karat: Purity level 750, the alloy consists of 18 parts gold and 6 parts other metals.

14 karat: Purity level 583, the alloy consists of 14 parts gold and 10 parts other metals.

10 karat: Purity 417, the alloy consists of 10 parts gold and 14 parts other metals

How can you distinguish between different gold carats?

Different carats of gold can be easily distinguished by looking at the stamp that the gold jewelry is stamped with. For example, 24 carat jewelry has a square with the number 1000 or 24, 21 carat jewelry has the number 875 or 21, 18 carat jewelry has the number 750 or 18, and so on. It is also possible to roughly distinguish between carats by looking. The paler the color of the alloy, the lower the percentage of gold in it.

Gold is currently used mainly in the manufacture of jewelry for women, in dentistry, in the manufacture of electronics, and in the treatment of some diseases, such as bone infections. It was used in ancient times in the manufacture of gold coins, and the Pharaohs used it in the manufacture of coffins.
